Capitello Wines
2018 Pinot Gris
Willamette Valley, Oregon
$18

Capitello’s first wine produced in 2003 was Pinot Gris, our flagship wine.  Formerly the Winemaker at King Estate for over a decade,  Ray Walsh is known as Oregon’s “King of Pinot Gris”.  Additionally, Ray’s wines have earned numerous Double Gold, Gold and Best of Class awards at wine competitions across the Pacific Northwest and United States.

Vineyards

The 2018 Pinot Gris is sourced from 3 vineyards in the south Willamette Valley:  Deerhaven Vineyard (Philomath, OR), Triple N Vineyard (Crow, OR) and Stanton Vineyard (Eugene, OR).

2018 Harvest

The 2018 vintage was an exceptional one.  Spring and summer were some of the warmest and driest on record, but there were no real heat spikes and the season was longer due to the cool autumn weather. That allowed grapes to hang and develop complex flavors on the vine while retaining fresh and crisp acidity.  Gris fruit was completed in 3 pickings, harvested on September 11th, 24th, and October 3rd, 2018.

Winemaking

Fruit was whole cluster pressed and fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks along with cool fermentation to retain fruit flavors and aromas. Bottled March 6th, 2019.

Total Alc: 13.7%
